Immunization is one of the most effective disease prevention interventions available in modern healthcare.
Immunization is one of the most effective disease-prevention interventions available in modern healthcare. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are responsible not only for vaccine administration but also for advanced vaccine assessment, prescribing, population health management, outbreak prevention, travel medicine, management of immunocompromised populations, interpretation of immunization guidelines, vaccine adverse event evaluation, and addressing vaccine hesitancy using evidence-based approaches. NPs frequently serve as primary care providers and must integrate immunization recommendations across the lifespan, from infancy through older adulthood. Advanced practice requires understanding immunology, vaccine technology, contraindications, special populations, public health implications, and current national immunization recommendations.
