Antihypertensives

Antihypertensives are not just blood-pressure lowering drugs. They are risk-reduction tools that prevent stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure progression, kidney injury, retinal injury, and pregnancy complications when they are matched to the patient. For CNPE/NP readiness, the advanced practice task is to decide whether the blood-pressure pattern is primary hypertension, secondary hypertension, medication-related elevation, pregnancy-related disease, renal disease, endocrine disease, or acute target-organ injury, then choose therapy and follow-up that fit authority and referral thresholds. The exam trap is treating the number alone. NurseNest questions should make the learner ask whether the patient is stable, whether target-organ injury is present, what medication class fits the comorbidity, and what monitoring proves safe response.
