Wilms tumor, or nephroblastoma, is an embryonal malignancy of the kidney that primarily affects young children.
Wilms tumor, or nephroblastoma, is an embryonal malignancy of the kidney that primarily affects young children. The classic presentation is a toddler who appears relatively well but has an abdominal mass found by a caregiver or during an examination. Hematuria and hypertension can occur, but neither is required. The central nursing priorities are to protect a suspected tumor from rupture, identify bleeding or severe hypertension, support accurate staging, and prevent chemotherapy-related harm.
