Why Cerebral Palsy Matters
Cerebral palsy (CP) sits at the intersection of routine chronic care and preventable acute harm.
Cerebral palsy (CP) sits at the intersection of routine chronic care and preventable acute harm. Because it is a permanent motor and posture disorder arising from a non‑progressive insult to the developing brain, every change in tone, feeding safety, respiration, or pain can be the first clue that the child is sliding from stability toward crisis. Recognising those cues, linking them to the underlying neuro‑developmental pathology, and responding within the RN’s scope of practice keeps the child from avoidable complications and aligns with Canadian standards of care.
