REx-PN
A prenatal rubella IgG result showing non-immunity becomes a discharge-planning issue after birth. The patient is no longer pregnant, so the live attenuated MMR vaccine can be given before she leaves hospital. This prevents rubella susceptibility in a later pregnancy and helps reduce the chance of rubella exposure to a future newborn. The timing is deliberate: MMR is not routinely given during pregnancy, but postponing postpartum vaccination leaves the patient vulnerable. The nursing decision is therefore to confirm eligibility, administer the vaccine safely, and make the 4-week pregnancy and contact precautions clear.
